Do you need a tutorial on an aspect of AS3? Or do you have an idea for more content on my blog? Just leave a comment below regarding the topic, and if I know it I’ll do it eventually. I’m no professional like Senocular however, so don’t expect the world, but I’ll definately seek out any information should there be a need. You could say that this is also a way for me to learn new things out there too.

Hi Dazzer – great site you have here.
Any ideas on how to make something like this
http://www.gskinner.com/blog/assets/spectrum_blaze/
I know its Displacement filter/perlin noise/glow but i have not been able to get close.
I have spent al morning trying and in the end gave up and just applied filters to a series of bitmaps to produce a rather crude example

if you have any examples of computespectrum i would love to see.
Stringy
I did play around with computeSpectrum() recently, and if you check out my labs, you’ll find it there (its called Vexations, yes admittedly it isn’t a very obvious name for a computeSpectrum() example.
Your attempt those was pretty good! I don’t think I could have achieve something like that myself.
Why don’t you ask Grant yourself?
Anyway, I think you’re on the right track… But your glow fades too quickly. Or almost instantly, where as Grant’s glow has a gradual fade. Might be something to look at. Meanwhile, I’ll have a look at perlin noise/filters
Thanks for the comment!
Your example looks nice, i think once you get a bit more pratice on this sort of thing a tutorial would be a big hit.
I think Grant has probably already sold the rights to his fla to some subscriber based group.
I can probably alter the glow but i have realized there are huge holes in my knowledge base in these areas.
keep up the good work both here and on the forums and please let me know if you come up with anything interesting. (if you want the source for the above let me know)
Yes, I got a couple of search hits coming from bitmapData, and computeSpectrum() search-terms, so I should start looking at other terms… heh
Another thing is I might put tutorials on another site, instead of this blog… too hard to organise, I think?
