I don&#039;t believe that SWX will replace AMFPHP. It is an alternative that might be better for certain types of applications (mashups, etc.) and it can be used alongside AMFPHP too as they use the service class structure. In fact, the SWX bundles actually contain AMFPHP and use the same core JSON class. 

Basically, when you install SWX, you can choose to hit the SWX gateway to get a SWX SWF back, hit the AMF gateway to do remoting or the JSON gateway for JSON and the XML-RPC gateway for, well, guess what! :)
